Organizations & Directories
Windy City and Illinois artists have enjoyed the efforts of this dedicated non-profit for 30 years, and the CAC has hosted a Web site since 1996. CAC is a membership organization that offers multiple benefits. There's state and regional news, a link to Illinois arts and crafts fairs, and discounted artist supplies.
Services include an online gallery for members, slide registry, job referral, access to credit union services, access to group health and studio insurance programs and others.
New York Foundation for the Arts
This might be the most full-featured site of its kind. In particular, check out these sections:
- NYFA Source is a comprehensive, online database that lets you look for arts grants, publications, and organizations by whatever criteria you choose. It's a powerful tool that requires a little practice, but NYFA provides a tutorial.
- For Artists, one of the major categories available from the site's main menu, provides business-of-art articles (many referenced elsewhere here at Seasource), grant news, an electronic answer desk and more.
Arts Resource Network (Seattle)
Formerly the Seattle Arts Commission, this organization includes local, state, and national resources. When you visit the site, you'll find a range of resources that run the gamut. Here are two to start with:
- The Professional Growth category lists business-arts and career resources focused on individual artists, organized by by functional area--visual, performing, etc.
- Resources and Issues groups Web lists other online arts portals, publications and other resources. While they include some Seattle and Puget Sound-focused sites, national resources are plentiful.
Texas Cultural & Arts Network (TCAnet)
Don't mess with Texas, but don't ignore it, either. Like all things Texas, this site is BIG. To avoid getting lost, try these first, then wander the Lone Star state:
- TCAnet Village is organized around the theme of buildings, and drills down to the categories you're likely to be interested in, labeled in obvious ways like "Bank," (good money management and financial tips).
- Artist Studios, under the TCAnet Village heading, drills down one deeper to articles and resources grouped by functional arts area (visual, dance, etc.). Again, while some things are Texax-only, more are of general use and interest.
Federal arts advocacy group.
A not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the development and support of global cultural interchange in the arts and to educating audiences and the public about the richness and diversity of the arts worldwide
