Robert Maniscalco is a highly sought after commission portrait artist. HIs exquisite oil-on-canvas portraits and fine art can be found in over 650 prominent, private and public collections throughout North America.
Robert also explores the creative process as host of ART BEAT, produced by Detroit Public Television - PBS, WTVS-Channel 56; he also writes a monthly arts column, called Pointe of Art, which is published in the Pointer News Magazine as well as the Detroit Arts News Group (DANG) a popular Internet blog.
He received a bachelor of Music from Wayne State University in 1983. Now he is a member of the WSU Board of Visitors and past President of the Wayne County Council for Arts, History and Humanities. He lived eight years in New York City where he completed an intensive professional acting trianing program at the Circle in the Square Theater and worked profesisonally in numerour film, television and stage productions. In 1993 he made his Carnegie Hall debut with the New Renaissance Chamber Artists, an experimental ensemble of instrumentalists and actors. In 1995, he took up residency in New Orleans, returning home to Detroit in 1997, where he founded the Maniscalco Gallery.
Now, he and his wife Amanda exhibit local and international fine art masters while raising a family. He continues to be active in theater and has developed an instructional painting video and presents live performances entitled, "The Poser of Positive Painting." He has most recently published his first novel, entitled, The Fishfly. The Fishfly is a probing, incisive novel which lays bare the insidious nature of both verbal and physical abuse. It mastersfully captures the deep-rooted difficulties of the healing process. The Fishfly is an inspiration to anyone who has ever had to overcome abuse, particularly its impact on the artistic spirit.
Session 1: Being a professional artist in today's changing economy
This presentation focuses on the special considerations artists face when setting goals and developing marketing strategies in today's challenging economy. Several successful models will be explored. Participants will gain a clearer idea of what effective marketing looks like and begin the process of visioning, branding and targeting their own unique audience. He examines the role of community, collaboration, self-discipline and integrity in building a career in the 21st century. Today's successful artists are also successful entrepreneurs. As a highly regarded artist, gallerist and host of Art Beat on PBS, Robert draws on his unique expereince and perspective to take your career to the next level.
